Ok, so I lied. This
isn't the end. But only major updates from now on. You know. Epiphanies, major
experiences, major changes, etc.
So when I got to
the airport we waited around for about 2 hours. Eventually we got on this tiny
plane headed for
We arrived in the Laguardia Airport at around 11. The taxi ride from
the airport to the apartments we were staying in was nice, but last
year's was about a thousand times better. This year, Code Blue
did not get to ride together.
Aaron and I, half of Code Blue, rode with Chestnut. The apartments were
much like the ones last year, only a couple blocks away at 6th and
36th. While Code Blue did not get to ride together, we did get to
stay together... along with one of or likely nemeses, Scott Stewart (probably) of Code Red.
Soon after we unpacked on
Saturday, we set sail for various sightseeing activities. I made
a goal to eat one random food at all the important places that i went
to in New York. Don't ask why. You can if you really want
to, but you probably won't get an answer. I don't know why either.
First up was Ground Zero, where the Twin Towers once stood. I ate
a Rice Krispies Treat there.
After Ground Zero, we decided to walk across The Brooklyn Bridge, on which, I ate half a box of ritz bits s'mores sandwhiches.
Then we decided to go lay in the grass in Central Park, in which i ate some overpaid for chocolate.
Sunday morning we went to a church that was probably 70% asian
people. It was pretty sweet. After church, Page, Mandy, Jen
(of California), Katie, Heather, Becca, and I went to the Metropolitan
Museum of Art, where i had a Hershey's Bar on the roof.
We saw the older half of the things in the museum. The naked
statues, the African/Greek pottery, etc were very boring... all the
same looking, hardly art. But the Monet, etc. was awesome. From
the museum, we cut through central park to get to the subway
station. We sorta got lost. If you've ever wondered where
the citizens of New York sunbathe, well, the answer is Central
Park. Tons of people in their bathing suits were lying out on the
lawn in Central Park. We probably went out to eat this
night or something; I forget. Monday morning was our first day of
work. We took the undaground to Washington Heights, an almost all
Dominican neighborhood. Dominicans look like a lot like black
people, and can sometimes be hard to tell apart from them. Martha
Trimble was mistaken for a Dominican a few times in New York. We
got to the church and descended into the basement. Scott Stewart
said that basement was a bit like what he'd imagine hell to be
like. It's painted red, and theres no windows so it gets very hot
and loud down there (not to mention the kids.) So anyway, I was
in charge of three second graders, Luiggi, Mark, and Jamie Lee.
They are all very cool. I'm sure I will miss them, as I already
do now. So Monday night we went to eat at Malecon, a
Dominican restaurant. Super tasty. Tuesday night a few of us went to
the top of the Empire State Building. There was a ridiculous
line, but we couldn't see how long it was, and to pass the time, Aaron
and I tried to teach Lil' Bow Wow's song "Bow Wow (Thats My Name) to
Scott Stewart... but he hadn't heard the song before so that was
difficult. Eventually we got up to the top after David was called
the Biggest Idiot of the Day by one of the workers there. I ate a
Nature Valley Oats and Honey Granola Bar there.
The
view was awesome, great visibility, if i had the time, I could have
spent a good 24 hours up there. Wednesday morning I woke up very sick,
so i stayed in the apartment. I just slept and laid on a couch
the whole day. I haven't heard so many
policecar/firetruck/ambulance sirens in my whole life. The whole day,
every fifteen minutes, a siren would go off. Thursday
morning I tried going to work with the kids, but came home at lunch
because I was feeling awful. I went back to the apartment and
slept. Friday morning, still feeling a little bit sick, I went and said
my goodbyes. Friday night Fresh, Luis, Natalie, and someone else
came out to eat with us at a mexicanish restaurant. Aaron, David,
and I spent most of our time taking pictures of each other and
Fresh. Saturday morning we went outside of where Fox News was
being taped. Aaron Mead's Dad got this video of it:

This
thing has taken me like a day to do. Everytime I was really bored
I'd write some in here and then get bored and go do something
else.
Pictures of everything soon.
